Add a new profile-only member to both the family tree and member directory

Learn how to add a new family member to both the family tree and member directory, such as an ancestor or child who doesn't use the platform yet (or never will).

1. Navigate to the Family Tree and click on the + button located in the left hand corner.

2. The menu gives you two options: add them to the family tree only, or add them to both the family tree and member directory. To create their profile, select the option to add them to both.

How do I decide whether to add a family member only to the family tree or to the directory as well?

A family member added only to the family tree will appear by name in their place within the tree. Other family members can find them there, but they won’t appear in the directory.

But you may want a more detailed profile for someone, even if they aren’t using the platform yet (or never will). Think of a young child or an ancestor. Creating a profile gives them a place in the directory, with their information and photo alongside everyone else’s. And if they ever need access down the road, you can link their account to the profile you’ve already set up.

3. Click add member.

4. You now must add the parents or spouse to ensure the person is correctly placed on the tree. You can also add a photo and a birthdate. Then, click save.  If you only created an entry on the tree, you are finished.

5. If you added the family member to a directory as well, it is time to decide which spaces your profile will be part of. Click on the hyperlinked name and the view user icon.

6. Click the "..." and "Manage spaces." From here, you can select which spaces this profile will be a part of, and save.
